Allergy

Baby BlogIt appears that Moira has a contact allergy to Cinnamon. We put some in the applesauce she was eating and now all the skin around her mouth (and a bit on her cheek where food was) is all red.

We will be doing a proper test later against the skin of her arm, but for now she's going to be missing out on some tasty Fall/Winter time treats.

The Big Move

Baby BlogSo Moira is in her own room now. We moved the crib last weekend and she seems to be doing fine. We've also noticed the cooler nights and temperature drop so she's in warmer sleepers now as well.

While she isn't upset about the move from our room to hers, she has been waking at night - usually once around 1am and then around 5:30-6:00am. Sometimes she can get herself back to sleep and sometimes she needs help.

For us, it's nice not to have to fumble around in the dark when going to bed :)

Baby's 1st Thanksgiving

Baby BlogMoira's first Thanksgiving was spent at my Mom's house in Peterborough. We were there a couple days. Unfortunately, she was waking up several times in the night and has been since. This could be a few things: teething (we can see a top tooth getting close to erupting), constipation or hunger. I don't think it's the play pen or strange place as she's continued doing it now that we're home.

While we were there though she was pretty happy. She liked seeing family and playing with everyone, including my 10 year old nephew. Moira did get a scrape on her upper lip when her hands went out from underneath her and she banged it on a board book. :(

Eating wise she's been gobbling up fruit and some veg (mostly squash and peas). She loves finger foods like Cheerios and toast squares. While she's been rejecting baby food meats, she did eat little bits of actual turkey.

That weekend we went to my nephew's car race (it's a camp he goes to by Mosport). That was a fun morning/afternoon. We also went to the Norwood fair the next day. I went on rides with Austin, Moira watched everything and napped, we ate chips and drank lemonade... the usual. Mom ended up helping my nephew win a stuffed dalmation dog for his girlfriend. We we there during a Liberal campaign stop too - we saw them go by and then later, while standing aside after getting our chips, they passed by and Stephane Dion reached out and shook our hands.

The drive there was uneventful and quick, the way home was not. A slow drive on the 401, we took the 4 and 407 for a bit, we had to stop for Moira to nurse and then stop for Darcy to pop in the back and feed her solids. The worst was by Guelph where the other side of the 401 had all lanes close due to an accident and rubberneckers slowed our side down to a crawl as well.

Oh - she's now added Mum mum mum to her babble repertoire.

2008 Federal Election

Darcy's BlogI'm very angry right now.

Not because the Conservative Party of Canada won last night's election with a strengthened minority. I suspect my annoyance at that will grow as they begin their new parliament.

No, I'm angry at the 41% of Canada that didn't bother to get off the butts and vote. That didn't bother to do their duty, the _absolute_ minimum required to have a democracy function.

They can complain all they want about how their choice doesn't matter, or how all the candidates are the same, or whatever their favourite excuse happens to be. Last night 41% of the people had a chance to show that they care about their country, their fellow man and the world. And they blew it off.

Nothing is going to change until people realize that the only way democracy works is if they are involved. Ideally, watching what the current government is doing _while_ they are in office and letting them know what you think about their policies and decisions. I know that takes time, I know that takes effort. But if you believe that politicians don't listen to you and you aren't even bothering to talk to them, well connect the dots people. At the very least use the big megaphone you are given every election to make your opinion known.

I'm very _very_ angry right now.

[Update1 - Replaced '...strengthened majority...' with '...strengthened minority...']

2008 Federal Election - Conservative Party of Canada

Darcy's Blog

Well, the long promised federal election is finally upon us. I've been wanting to vent some of my thoughts about the election and the primary parties and so expect to see more commentary from me on this blog about the election.

With that said, I'm going to start with the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC), the incumbents.

For those who don't want to read the whole post I'll cut to the chase. I'm not happy and they will have to do something miraculous to receive my vote.
