Where have we been?

Baby BlogWe've been out of touch for a bit. We took Moira to visit Darcy's side of the family (the Phipps side) in British Columbia.

We'll post more about the trip and our return shortly - and there'll be pictures too.

Reasons I won't be voting for the Conservative Party

Breanna's BlogSigh... well anyone who knows me knows who I'm *not* voting for. Why?

Poor Fiscal Management
With the GST cut no economist would get behind and budgeting so that the surplus is gone, we're on the brink of running a deficit with an economic slump in sight - and the Tories are supposed to be the more fiscally conservative

Handing Food Inspection to Industry
Planning to officially change food inspection to being done/managed by industry instead of the government, which has slowly been happening already (shades of Walkerton, plus the recent Listeria outbreak)

Secrecy
Harper's iron fisted control over gov't information and locking out the press in various ways - and this is from the man who ran on creating a more open and accountable government (how do you keep them accountable if you don't know what they're doing?)

Inaction on the Environment
Lots of talk, no real action, removal of previous programs promoting green energy and business development and active disruption of international cooperative efforts on environmental action - particularly climate change (if you don't believe climate change is happening, you haven't been paying attention, either to scientists - http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=final-report-humans-cause) - or the news - http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5gT3x3JoOwwt12fSlVWyCofqaK7qA)

No Early Childhood Plan
A family benefit that's too small to make a real impact and is taxable - nothing they've done have increased daycare spaces either and believe me there's a definite need for more spaces

Underhanded Electioneering
Improper election spending last time (explanantion from the Liberal site http://www.scandalpedia.ca/Scandals/InOut_en.html), using government money for pro-PC flyers (we get these frequently) and the spending gobs of cash on commercials for their party, just before they actually called the election, so they didn't have to count it under their election spending limit

Slamming Ontario
This was spearheaded by Jim Flaherty (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Flaherty) - former Harris minister - for what reason I don't know

Lack of Support for Major Cities
Major cities are the hub of commerce and development and many people other than those who live their use city services - with high infrastructure and transit costs alone more support is needed.

Major cuts to the Arts

...

Who will I vote for though? I'll have to write another post about that...

Oh the chaos

Baby BlogWell most of it is over now and we're into the aftermath. My mom has come and gone and Darcy's mom is down now.

The hardwood is done and looks great. We've rearranged things and the TV is set up (though not on the correct stand). The house is *mostly* clean...

Anyway, I'll leave it to Darcy to post about the installation and new toys...

The chaos begins

Baby BlogMy mom is coming down today to stay with us for about a week. We're going to be tearing the house apart a bit. This week is our cleaning / baby proofing / hardwood installing / great room redesigning week.

Baby proofing is needed as Moira is showing more and more movement skills and we would like to be prepared. In doing the kitchen I also want to change where some things are and get rid of the items we never use. Maybe clean out the fridge as well.

We have to move everything out of the great room and loft area for the hardwood installation. Once it's done we can clean those areas and put things back. As we've bought a new entertainment system (finally), that'll be set up as well. The whole thing does involve quite a bit of work to remove and then reinstall some shelving, lay cables, more large pieces of furniture and such. Darcy wants to screw down the floor to avoid squeaking, so ripping up the carpet beforehand is another task.

Hopefully it won't create too much additional mess; we'll be cleaning anyway. I would like to be able to use the kitchen, though perhaps not on the actually installation day. It'll probably be cramped with furniture.

Mom will be down for a week, which will really help. Darcy's mom is also coming to visit just after that.

Is it a bad thing...

Baby BlogThat of all the music I can play for Moira, I usually end up playing ABBA songs?

I'm starting to worry that the first words out of her mouth will be

"Su-PA-PA Tro-PA-PA"
